The Top 5 Ways to Boost Your Immune System

Adirondak Chairs by a sunsetIn this post, we talk about the Top 5 Ways to Boost Your Immune System as we shift into Fall.  Kids going back to school can often mean cold and flu being brought home, and you trying to stay well to avoid disruptions to your flow.

I hope each of you have been able to enjoy the summer and are feeling ready to ride the waves of changing seasons.

Here are some ideas for you to consider as you enter this next season with a vital immune system and have calm and vital energy for enjoying whatever it is you are up to.

  1. Clean-ish Eating for 10 Days (21 if you’re into it): You don’t have to be perfect here! The easiest way to reduce inflammation and increase your immune strength is shifting your menu a bit.  Summer fun can tend to lean us into more sugar, alcohol, processed carbs (bread, bagels, pasta, crackers, pizza, etc.).  For the next 10 days, reset your blood sugar and strengthen your immune system by eating more organic whole foods.  Vegetables, fruits, grilled meats from clean farms (if you are not vegetarian/vegan), and healthy fats like olive oil, avocado oil, and grassfed butter.
  1. Increase Your Filtered Water Intake: Aim for ½ your body weight in ounces per day. Build slowly if you are nowhere near that now.
  1. 10 Minutes of Morning Exercise: This is not intended to make you sweat, think more about just mindfully waking up your body. QiGong, walking (outside, on a treadmill, or even in place), and yoga are all good options.
  1. Breathwork: Follow-up your morning exercise with some form of breathwork (such as Box Breathing) for 5-10 minutes. Box Breathing is super simple – Inhale for a slow 4 count, hold your breath in for a slow 4 count, exhale for a slow 4 count, and then hold your breath out for a slow 4 count. Repeat 4 times.
  1. Mobilize your lymph
    • Get a lymph massage from certified practitioner
    • Watch a video for self-lymph massage
    • Rebounding (gently!) for 3-5 minutes on a mini trampoline
    • Walking, yoga, swimming, dancing

Bonus Tips:

  1. Gratitude Mind Set – Start your day (before your feet hit the ground or you start scrolling!) thinking of 3 things you are grateful for.  Breathe and really wait until you have a lighter heart before you decide to get up.  When you are in a more up-vibe space, you will be in a better mindset for taking actions that align with you having a great day.
  1. Consider boosting your immune system with the following:
    • Vitamin C
    • D3 with K2
    • Echinacea
    • Dandelion tea
    • Milk Thistle
